Nature Sanctuary
Urumbi Hills

Nature Sanctuary Urumbi Hills (formerly known as Urumbi Hill Palace) features a 7000 sqft Heritage Bungalow built in the early 1900’s during Colonial times. The property is situated 2500 ft above sea. Ensconced in the comforts of a 16 Acre lush green paradise, you will most likely step seamlessly into another alluring world above the clouds waking up to a white vista.

The property offers three 700 sqft Suite Rooms, two 450 sqft Premium Rooms and two PoolView Rooms. It has a 1800 sqft Dining Area and a full-fledged Gourmet Kitchen. It also has a 2000 sqft open deck with infinity view.

It has  two natural streams running through the property and natural pools and waterfalls (seasonal). We get light rains for about 180 days in a year and watching it from the 130 ft long verandah is the most relaxing experience which will be topped by the mist that comes by in the late afternoon. Cuddling around the fireplace or enjoying the campfire by the Barbecue pit is the most popular evening activity.

The  property offers excellent trekking trails with fabulous views of the hills and valleys. It also has a hidden private rainforest. The famous “Madammakulam” and Urumbi Hilltop are only 3 kms away and normally accessed by our guests either by trekking or a 4x4 Jeep Safari. Adjacent to the property, we also have a 50 acre cardamom plantation situated at 3200-3950 ft above MSL and offers another excellent trekking trail where you will see the very beginning point of the river and enjoy the sweetest mineral water ever.

Nature Sanctuary Urumbi Hills is about 3 hours drive from Cochin International Airport or 2 hours drive from Kottayam.

Step Into the Past

Raman Kankani

Embark on a journey through time at Nature Sanctuary, where you'll be transported to the British colonial era of the early 1900s. The last of the five meticulously designed residences in Travancore commissioned by Raman Kankani, a labour supply to plantations, this exquisite planter's bungalow is a testament to the period's architectural elegance. Restored to harmoniously blend the old-world charm with contemporary hospitality, Nature Sanctuary awaits your arrival.

Raman Kankani

Vallat K. Raman, widely remembered as Raman Kankani, was born into the Vallattu family in Mavelikkara. He began his journey at Travancore Rubber & Tea Co Ltd estate at the age of 16, ascending from an office role to the primary labour contractor for British/Irish plantations. Acquiring 2000 acres in Urumbikkara from Vanjippuzha Thampuran (which houses Nature Sanctuary), he left a lasting legacy, including the Paloor Valley Estate in Mundakkayam and Uttamabagh Estate in Thonnakkal.

Reconnect with Nature

Nestled in lush greenery, Nature Sanctuary is a rejuvenating back-to-nature experience far from the madding crowds. Two natural streams gracefully meander through the property-the soft, meditative gurgle of water at once relaxing. Also, you'll find seasonal swimming pools in the premises during the monsoon and waterfalls elsewhere in the vicinity. The sightlines of Nature Sanctuary are replete with vistas of mist-kissed afternoons and gentle rains.

Welcome to your journey with history and nature ...to rediscover life.
